1. Observe their Style
- Do they wear yellow or white gold/silver? If their jewellery is yellow gold, you should definitely choose a yellow gold ring. If your partner wears silver or white gold jewellery, opt for a white gold engagement ring.
- Do they prefer big, bling bling jewellery or have a more understated style? If your partner loves big, statement jewellery, we recommend choosing a halo style engagement ring. Halo rings feature smaller diamonds surrounding the centre stone, ensuring maximum impact and sparkle.
If they wear simple, fine jewellery, we advise choosing a solitaire engagement ring. Featuring a single diamond, its simplicity and elegance is timeless. If you're unsure or if you think that your partner's taste lies between the two, opt for a three stone engagement ring. Featuring two side diamonds to accentuate the brilliance of the centre stone, a three stone engagement ring represents your relationship's past, present and future love.
3. Quality over Size
A big diamond which has poor quality factors namely cut, clarity and colour, is doomed to be a lifeless and unimpressive stone. The solution? We advise choosing a smaller diamond with an impressive cut, colour (H grade or above) and clarity (SI1 grade or above). This quality diamond will sparkle brilliantly. However, if you know your beloved would love a large diamond (larger than your budget allows), consider a lab grown diamond. Identical to mined diamonds, lab grown diamonds carry a lower price tag (approximately 50% less expensive than a mined stone). A great alternative if you would like a bigger, quality diamond at a lower price point.
4. View the Ring in Person
Browsing online is a very helpful way to get ideas and inspiration. Yet seeing the ring in reality is essential, so you can properly inspect its weight, style and quality. As a Jeweller, we never purchase loose diamonds or diamond rings without seeing them in person. It is also the opportunity to ask the Jeweller important questions such as:- Can the ring be ordered or made in the correct size if it doesn’t fit?
- How long does it take to order or make the ring in the correct size?
- Will a detailed receipt or valuation be provided so you can have the ring insured by your insurance provider?
