The beautiful aquamarine is March's birthstone, as well as being the 19th wedding anniversary gemstone. Meaning "water of the sea", its sparkling pale blue, ocean-like colour has a serene, calming energy.

The best quality aquamarine gemstones have high clarity and transparency, a combination that brings great sparkle. The finest quality aquamarines showcase gorgeous blue to slightly greenish-blue hues. The blue colour means aquamarine is sometimes mistaken for blue topaz. Like the gemstones emerald and morganite, aquamarine is a colour variety of the mineral beryl.

While most of the world's aquamarine is found in Brazil, it also comes from Pakistan, India and China among other countries. Ranking 7.5-8/10 on the Mohs scale of hardness, aquamarine is durable enough for everyday jewellery. We especially love white gold aquamarine jewellery set with diamonds as the two gemstones complement each other beautifully.

Although it is not as hard as diamond, ruby and sapphire, aquamarine is relatively durable and it's a gorgeous choice as an engagement ring, provided it's treated with love and care, in order to preserve its beauty and lustre forever.
